Silly Billy product used:
Pickle Sriracha
Ingredients
375 g Italian sausages
30 ml (2 tbsp) vegetable oil
250 ml (1 cup) chopped yellow onion
250 ml (1 cup) carrots, small dice
125 ml (½ cup) celery, small dice
22.5 ml (1½ tbsp) minced garlic
30 ml (2 tbsp) all-purpose flour
15 ml (1 tbsp) tomato paste
2 L (8 cups) chicken broth
250 ml (1 cup) dry brown lentils
7.5 ml (½ tbsp) Worcestershire sauce
7.5 ml (½ tbsp) pickle sriracha
1 dried bay leaf
2.5 ml (½ tsp) mustard powder
5 ml (1 tsp) dried basil
2.5 ml (½ tsp) dried parsley
2.5 ml (½ tsp) dried oregano
1.25 ml (¼ tsp) ground black pepper
½ of a 798 ml can diced tomatoes
Preparation
Remove the sausage casings. In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat and cook the sausage meat, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, until well browned, about 10 minutes.
Add the onion, carrots, and celery to the pot. Cook over medium heat for 4 minutes, stirring regularly. Add the garlic and cook for 1 more minute.
Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute. Add the tomato paste and cook, stirring, for 2 minutes.
Gradually add the chicken broth, stirring to loosen any browned bits from the bottom of the pot.
Add the dry lentils, Worcestershire sauce, pickle sriracha, bay leaf, mustard powder, dried herbs, and black pepper. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce to low and simmer partially covered for 45 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the lentils are tender.
Add the diced tomatoes and continue cooking for 10 minutes.Remove the bay leaf and serve hot.
